About Us
The Centre for Law and Democracy is a non-profit organisation which works to promote, protect and develop those human rights which serve as the foundation for or underpin democracy. These include the rights to freedom of expression, to vote and participate in governance, to access information, and to freedom of assembly and association.
CLD works collaboratively with NGOs and other partners around the world to carry out projects aimed at boosting respect for the human rights it promotes. Our strategies include, among others, research, legal and policy analysis, law reform advocacy, capacity building, strategic litigation, and the provision of technical assistance. Please feel free to get in touch with us if you have a project which you feel might benefit from our specialised legal and policy expertise.

Digital Rights
States face the challenge of reforming their laws to keep pace with the digital revolution, while civil society faces the challenge of ensuring that new rules respect international standards. Another challenge is how to approach regulating digital platforms. CLD is working with a range of partners and in a range of ways to address these challenges, with a focus on developing policy and new standards for freedom of expression and the Internet.

Global Transparency Work
CLD is working with a number of inter-governmental organisations (IGOs) and International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to improve transparency both in their own operations and through them of States. Greater transparency on the part of IFIs and IGOs can help reduce corruption, avoid negative social and environmental impacts, and increase participation, engagement and ownership over projects, thereby rendering them more robust and relevant.
